Football commentary on Netherlands vs Austria in the final match of Group D, EURO 2024

Football commentary for the third game of Group D of the 2024 European Championship between Austria and the Netherlands.

Going into the championship game, Group D’s condition is very evenly balanced. The French team and the Dutch team each have four points. They drew 0-0 with France and defeated Poland 2-1. The Dutch team nearly pulled off a surprise in the match against France, even missing a contentious goal.

In the meantime, the Austrian squad bounced back from a close setback to France by defeating Poland 3-1. Player Marko Arnautovic stated, “We are a good team and proved it today.”

Under coach Rangnick’s direction, the Austrian team is genuinely frustrating and plays with a great deal of spirit. Even in friendly games, they have fallen short in their last seven encounters with the Netherlands. Since the 1984 World Cup qualifying, they have never triumphed over the Netherlands.

Unlike prior tournaments, the Dutch team currently participating is not very strong and lacks superstars. They will still be a challenge for the Austrian team, though, because of their compact playing style and ability to seize openings.

Each club in this game has players who, should they acquire another yellow card, will serve a suspension. Veerman and Schouten are on the Dutch team. Arnautović, Baumgartner, Danso, Laimer, Mwene, Wimmer, and Wöber are the Austrians.

The Polish squad is the only one in this group eliminated prior to playing in the championship game. In the match, they will play France at the same time.

Likely teams:

Verbruggen, Dumfries, De Vrij, Van Dijk, Aké; Schouten, Simons, Reijnders; Frimpong, Depay, Gakpo are the Netherlands.

Austria: Gregoritsch; Wimmer, Baumgartner, Sabitzer; Pentz; Posch, Danso, Lienhart, Mwene; Seiwald, Laimer.
