Bayern Munich have opened talks with the agent of Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes ahead of a potential summer transfer, according to reports from Portugal.
New Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is eager to add to his squad with the German giants aiming to strengthen after a disappointing season.
Bayern finished a rare campaign without a trophy, despite Harry Kane’s impressive goal scoring record since his arrival.
Kompany’s appointment was confirmed this week, with the former Burnley manager succeeding Thomas Tuchel despite attempts from Bayern to convince the German to remain at the Allianz Arena.
Portuguese outlet O Jogo report that Bayern could make Fernandes the first marquee signing under Kompany.
Bayern have reportedly started talks with Bruno Fernandes’ agent over a summer transfer
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern are looking to secure the signing of Man United star Fernandes
The report claims Bayern have approached Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho over a potentially sensational move for the United skipper.
Although Bayern are reportedly targeting Fernandes, they may have to act quickly, with Barcelona also interested in signing him as per the reports.
Fernandes’ future at United is uncertain, especially given that it isn’t clear whether manager Erik ten Hag will remain in charge.
The Man United captain stressed last month that he wants to remain at the club, writing in The Players’ Tribune.
Fernandes, however, stressed that he needs to have his ambitions matched.
He wrote: ‘I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream.
‘I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing. We want to compete for the league. We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in cup finals. That is the standard. That is what I want. That is what you all deserve.
‘I just want to keep fighting. I want to be here. My family wants to be here.’
