In a match that meant very nothing to either team on Saturday night, Real Madrid easily defeated Granada 4-0.
Since Granada’s relegation to the second division had already been confirmed earlier in the day, the match ended in a deаd rubber. Carlo Ancelotti rested most of his star players in preparation for the Champions League final.
But Ancelotti gave some undrafted guys chances, and it soon became apparent that Madrid’s eager-to-please young players were taking things very seriously.
Left-back Just before the half, Fran Garcia gave Madrid the lead when he arrived late to receive a pass from Brahim Diaz and score the team’s first La Liga goal.
Garcia took his turn as creator, and in additional time, Arda Guler extended Madrid’s lead. Guler handled and finished off the left-back’s easy cross to move Madrid one step closer to a triumph that not many thought would be possible.
After the break, Madrid kept up their momentum and scored their third goal four minutes into the second half thanks to a truly magical play by Brahim, who picked up the ball on the halfway line, drove straight at the box, and then curled a shot from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner.
After some excellent work from the dangerous Facundo Pellistri, Myrto Uzuni squandered a fantastic opportunity to pull one back, but Brahim added a fourth just before the hour mark, and Granada were soon rallying once more.
Both Joselu and Brahim failed to capitalize on opportunities for the fifth goal, which nearly went to Granada when Ricard Sanchez’s attempt had to be cleared off the line.
Although Granada never gave up, the hosts, who are already focused on life in the second division, could not keep up with the difference in quality.
