There was an incredible controversy during El Clasico when Barcelona were denied a goal when the ball looked over the goal line and why the referees canceled Barcelona’s goal against Real Madrid

Real Madrid and Barcelona’s Sunday night El Clasico match was rife with controversy as the latter were denied a goal as the ball appeared to cross the line.

Andreas Christensen gave Barcelona a 1-0 lead at the Santiago Bernabeu, but Vinicius Jr.’s penalty tied the score.

However, in the 27th minute, the Blaugrana believed they had taken the lead again.

Using a deft flick from a corner, Lamine Yamal surprised goalie Andriy Lunin.

Though it appeared to have crossed the line from several angles, he responded slowly and parried the ball away before Federico Valverde could get a chance.

The visiting players objected, but a thorough VAR review determined that the ball had not crossed the line. Surprisingly, La Liga lacks goal-line technology, which makes it unlike any major league in the world, therefore there was no reliable method to know.

The Premier League referee receives a signal on their watch via technology that indicates whether or not a goal has been scored.

However, El Larguero reports that La Liga president Javier Tebas refuses to pay the “£2.6 million” cost of this equipment, hence it is not present in the top division of Spain.

The fact that Luis Suarez’s goal against Real Betis in 2017 was not given in spite of clear goal-line technology is not the first time Barca has felt wronged by it.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, but the victory over Valencia featured an identical occurrence.

Being the only major league without goal-line technology, La Liga’s decision to forgo it is astounding considering the margin of error it removes for pivotal calls.

After introducing Hawk-Eye technology for the 2013–14 season, the Premier League is currently in its eleventh season of using it to assess if the entire ball is over the line.

In the 32nd round of La Liga in Spain, Real Madrid takes on Barcelona. As expected for such a prominent match, there was little movement in the first six minutes of play, but in the sixth, Barcelona’s defender Andreas Christensen opened the score. The guests’ happiness was short-lived, though, as Vinicius equalized the score from the penalty spot 10 minutes after Cubarsi fouled in his own penalty area.

Lamine Yamal scored a goal following a corner kιck at the bottom right corner of the goal midway through the first half, but Andriy Lunin made an amazing stop. Despite the referee’s uncertainty about whether the ball passed the goal line, the goal was not awarded thanks to VAR. The referee’s ruling is supported by screenshots from the broadcast, which indicate that the ball did not completely cross the goal line.
