On Sunday night, Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-2 in the El Clasico rivalry thanks to a goal by Jude Bellingham in the 91st minute.
In the last seconds of the match, the England player scored his third goal of the year against Barca, securing all three points and possibly the La Liga championship.
With the victory, Madrid leads their fiercest opponents by an impressive 11 points going into the last few weeks of the 2023–2024 campaign.
Real Madrid’s relatively careless first five minutes were fully exploited by Barcelona, as Andreas Christensen scored the game’s first goal.
The former Chelsea player took advantage of Andriy Lunin’s mishandled punched clearance attempt to score his third goal ever for La Blaugrana by rising highest at the back post.
Madrid was awakened by the goal, and after falling behind, Los Blancos started to play with genuine purpose. Following a few half-chances that ended in failure, Lucas Vazquez was fouled in the penalty area by an overextended Pau Cubarasi, giving the home team their first truly clear-cut opportunity of the match.
Vinicius Junior advanced to take the penalty kιck, and he performed flawlessly, curving the ball past Marc-Andre ter Stegen and into the lower right corner of the net.
Barca would almost miss regaining the lead from another corner kιck in the 25th minute. Robert Lewandowski was the one who got his head in the set piece delivery this time, but he was unable to aim his shot from the edge of the six-yard box, instead ballooning it over the bar.
A few minutes later, a low delivery into the near post produced even more chaos in the Madrid box, adding to Madrid’s difficulties with corner kicks. Lunin was nearly caught off guard by Lamine Yamal’s backheel flick at the near post, as the Ukrainian managed to scoop the ball out of dаnger just before it crossed the goal line.
At the beginning of the second half, Real Madrid appeared noticeably exhausted, which gave Barca total control of the game. The visitors’ greatest opportunity of the dominating spell came from replacement Ferran Torres, who punched the ball past Lunin and narrowly missed the post after being placed through on goal during a fast cоunterattack.
Fermin Lopez would eventually give Barca their much-deserved goal in the 68th minute. In the center of the penalty area, the midfielder was the first to respond, seizing a rebound to make it 2-1.
That advantage didn’t last long, though, as Madrid was able to tie Barca shortly afterward.
This time, Lucas Vazquez would equalize the score by slipping in behind Joao Cancelo at the back post and finishing a curling cross from Vincius Junior.
Surprisingly, Jude Bellingham scored the game’s winning goal for Madrid in the 91st minute.
The ball was slipped into the goal by the star midfielder on the left of the penalty box after a cross from Brahim Diaz fell past two Barcelona players and into his path.
