Bruno Fernandes concedes that Manchester United is giving their opponents too many opportunities in the wake of their tҺrilling 4-3 loss to Chelsea on Thursday night.
It was an exciting night at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea led 3-2 at one point in ιnjury time and then rallied for the win thanks to two goals from Cole Palmer in the dying seconds to complete his hat-trιck.
Alejandro Garnacho’s brace came either side of Fernandes’ attempt, which was the second goal for United, but it wasn’t enough in the end.
Chelsea has 28 shots during the game, continuing Manchester United’s trend of giving up a lot of shots this season.
Across all competitions in 2024, the Red Devils have faced the most shots—275—of any team in the top five European leagues.
Fernandes acknowledges that this is an issue that they need to deal with going forward, not just against Chelsea, as they get ready to play Liverpool on Sunday.
Fernandes said to TNT Sports, “We had the game in our hands and we gave it away.” It’s annoying. It’s challenging to accept. For the last few minutes, we were under good control. However, they had two opportunities and scored twice.
‘We need to be considerably faster from the corner. We were aware in advance that they cut corners and rush things.
Our recent games have seen us give up far too many shots. It’s all about keeping your package safe.
“The match against Liverpool on Sunday is important.” I don’t have anything to sаy to his teammates. This is a huge club, so it’s problematic if I need to sаy anything.
When Eric ten Hag was shown the incriminating shot statistics, he dismissed them with a “that’s ridiculous.” We demonstrated that, heading into this game, our goal conceded rank was fourth.
“I can’t do anything with it because everyone is talking to each other after.” We’re doing fine. As a team, we defend the ball well.
We have a strong back four and a fantastic goalkeeper. I am powerless with these statistics.
