Prior to the summer transfer window, Real Madrid has a lot of work to do, but perhaps none is more crucial than taking care of some of the players who are currently on the team.
For instance, after months of convincing, Toni Kroos has agreed to sign a one-year contract extension with the team. Lucas Vazquez and Nacho, meanwhile, are prepared to sign contracts for one-year renewals.
Conversely, Luka Modric is still uncertain about his future. If he were to sign a contract, he would like a more prominent position on the squad because he has not been thrilled with his job this season.
In the meantime, Real Madrid is prepared to extend the contract of Andriy Lunin, their backup goalie, and Fabrizio Romano reports that they are optimistic about their possibilities.
Madrid is happy with Lunin.
When Thibaut Courtois injured his ACL in preseason, Carlo Ancelotti first brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on loan to fill the void, but in the end, he went with Andriy Lunin in goal.
This season, the Ukrainian has proven to be a reliable player on several occasions, most notably in the round of 16 Champions League matchup with RB Leipzig.
Understandably pleased with Lunin’s season-long efforts, Madrid is optimistic that they can come to a final arrangement with him over a new contract.
After two weeks of deliberation, it appears that the two sides are tying up the last aspects of the agreement before making it public.
Madrid’s long-term faith in Lunin
In addition to recovering from an ACL tear that has sidelined him for the whole season, 32-year-old Belgian player Thibaut Courtois recently sustained an ιnjury to his second knee.
With these kinds of injuries at the end of his goalkeeping career, the Belgian could be in serious dаnger.
But Madrid is prepared to trust Lunin in the long run, regardless of what happens to him—even if it means replacing Courtois in the tragic scenario.
