With LeBron James out of the picture, the Lakers opened their road trip with a tҺrilling victory over the Bucks, rallying from a 19-point deficit to win in double overtime, 128-124.
Once again, Anthony Davis was unstoppable, finishing with 34 points, a game-high 23 rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and two assists. After gaining momentum in the second half, D’Angelo Russell finished the game with 29 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, and 5-12 from three-point range.
With 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists in double overtime, Austin Reaves recorded a triple-double. He also made several huge free throws in OT and the game’s biggest shot in double overtime. In addition, Rui Hachimura scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, setting a new career high for rebounds.
LeBron James was replaced in the starting lineup by Spencer Dinwiddie, who also started the game when Russell returned from a one-game absence owing to a non-CоVID sickness. The regulars from Davis, Rui, and Austin joined them.
Although this is one of the non-LeBron lines that has been successful, they were unable to start the game on Tuesday with a pea in the ocean. Before the first timeout, Los Angeles was behind 1–10 and soon trailed 12-2.
The squad struggled to create rhythm and cohesiveness in the first frame, and things never got any better. As a team, they shot 28% from the field and were behind by as much as 19. The Los Angeles Lakers trailed 32-16 after one, but thanks to a late basket by Anthony Davis, the outcome was only slightly better.
Rui scored in double figures early in the second quarter, as the Lakers offense began to come alive. Halfway through the quarter, Davis assisted in reducing the deficit to single digits for a brief period of time.
Sadly for Los Angeles, Antetokounmpo was unstoppable throughout the first half, finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds to restore the majority of the Bucks’ advantage during a 17–6 surge to end the quarter. In sharp contrast to their previous game, where they scored 150 points, the Lakers’ 48 points in the first half were their lowest total of the season.
In the third quarter, Los Angeles came out swinging, led by D’Lo’s impressive 3-point shooting. Once again, the squad was within single digits thanks to a made three by the newly appointed Lakers season-long franchise leader.
In the final moments of the third quarter, Bobby Portis and Jae Crowder made critical 3-pointers to punish the Lakers for yet another careless quarter that included numerous errors. Giannis scored at the buzzer to extend Milwaukee’s lead to 14.
The Lakers needed to put in a strong effort in the first few minutes of the fourth quarter if they were going to have a chance to rally with 12 minutes remaining and behind by double digits.
That didn’t occur because Milwaukee scored the first four points of the quarter while Davis was sitting on the bench getting his usual rest. When Davis came back at 9:52, the Lakers still had a chance to rally. They forced a Doc Rivers timeout after going on a 16-2 run to close the gap to five points.
Milwaukee’s Khris Middleton made a crucial 3-pointer to stop the run and cut the score to ten, but the Lakers would not go away. The game was tied after 3-pointers from Davis and Reaves and two free throws from Prince.
Giannis missed a tight layup at the rim and Reaves missed a three-pointer, forcing overtime as a result of both sides losing game-winning opportunities.
In overtime, Davis continued to shoot well from long range, making one of his three 3-pointers. With 2:17 remaining in the extra session, the Lakers seized their first lead following a Dinwiddie three-pointer.
With 13.6 seconds remaining, the Bucks were up two again following a 3-pointer by Dаme following a trade of free throws between Lillard and Reaves. On the subsequent play, Russell drew the foul and tied the score with a pair of free throws from the charity stripe.
Milwaukee had a chance to win, but Davis stopped Dаme’s last-second shot with a block that kept the game alive.
No one scored in the opening three minutes of double overtime because both teams were worn out. Reaves tied the game with a layup after Dаme eventually broke through with a fastbreak slam.
With 1:17 remaining, Dinwiddie Һit a pair himself, and the game was knotted once more. The Lakers took the lead after Reaves made a long 3-pointer, and after Giannis missed both free throws on the other end and Reaves grabbed the rebound, the Lakers were in control.
Following a 3-pointer by Malik Beasley, Reaves’ free throws put Los Angeles ahead by just two. After Davis sealed the game at the line and they properly inbounded the ball, the Lakers eventually
