During Los Angeles’ 101-94 win against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night, D’Angelo Russell broke the Lakers record most 3-pointers made in a single season. Anthony Davis finished with 23 points and 19 rebounds.
In their meetings with the Sixers, the Lakers ended a seven-game losing run led by LeBron James, who finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Since March 3, 2020, Los Angeles has not defeated Philadelphia.
Using their strength and tenacity, James scored eleven points and Davis added nine in the fourth quarter, helping them overcome a tenacious effort from Philadelphia. The Lakers had their lowest scoring output since January 3 and neither team had a double-digit lead the whole evening.
When Russell made his 184th 3-pointer halfway through the first quarter, he broke the record held by Nick Van Exel from the 1994–95 campaign. After resting for three days after their victory over Atlanta on Monday, Russell led the Lakers to their eighth win in 11 games with 14 points and four 3-pointers in the finale.
It was a difficult evening for Los Angeles because of their оffensive rustiness upon their return, as well as Philly’s usually tough defense and bad shooting. With 2:11 remaining in the game, James made his first 3-pointer of the game, and neither side was up by more than seven points.
The Sixers, who have lost seven straight, were led by Tyrese Maxey, who scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half. Tobias Harris returned after a three-game ιnjury absence with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 19 points. Harris had a sprained right ankle. As of right now, Philadelphia’s four-game road trip along the West Coast stands at 0–2.
After playing with Kobe Bryant as a rookie and being selected by the Lakers in the 2015 draft, Russell was traded back to Los Angeles during the previous season. In his second season with the Lakers, he has been a prolific scorer from beyond the area. On Monday, he tied Van Exel’s record with six 3-pointers.
In his highest-scoring game since joining the Lakers from his hometown, Spencer Dinwiddie finished with 11 points and three 3-pointers.
Taurean Prince, the swingman for Los Angeles, had a personal absence from the game.
