Los Angeles (AP) — In a 136-105 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, LeBron James finished with 25 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds, and D’Angelo Russell scored 27 points, tying the Lakers’ single-season record for 3-pointers.
After making six 3-pointers against the Hawks, Russell’s season total of 183 has passed Kobe Bryant’s 180 from the 2005–06 campaign and tied the franchise record set by Nick Van Exel in 1994–95. Before the Lakers used their whole bench, Russell’s most recent impressive shooting performance was capped off with a stunning 3-pointer at the third-quarter buzzer. He then made two more early in the fourth quarter to tie the record.
Russell remarked, “That’s really cool, honestly.” “It’s just really cool to get credit for something like this, just for your game and what you work so hard to do and showcase it every night.”
With their 13th victory in 20 games following their loss in Atlanta in late January, the Lakers ended a two-game losing streak. Russell added 10 assists, while Anthony Davis finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
With a cut cornea in his left eye, Davis had to leave Saturday’s loss to Golden State early. Despite the temporary blurriness in his vision, the All-Star big man was able to play the entire game against the Hawks. According to Davis, he opted not to wear goggles.
“I went through that stage in high school,” a beaming Davis remarked. Davis was born and raised in Chicago and occasionally wore goggles and prescription glasses before undergoing corrective eye surgery a few years ago. “I’ve moved past that stage. Of course, if the doctors had told me I needed it, which I didn’t, I would have.
With this victory and Golden State’s loss to New York, Los Angeles, which hasn’t dropped three straight games since early January, also climbed back up to ninth place in the Western Conference rankings. James put forth another fantastic performance, scoring 65 points on 25 of 37 shots over the previous two games, while Russell had another big game and Davis looked well from the low post.
Davis remarked, “Bron is Bron, and it’s that time of year.” “He’s got great ball handling skills. He’s been looking for people and going all out. He has been withdrawing defensively.
In all, Jalen Johnson scored twenty-five points, while Bogdan Bogdanovic scored seventeen. The Hawks have lost three of their four games on their road trip along the West Coast.
Coach Quin Snyder of Atlanta stated, “I thought we were ready to play, but there are two Hall of Fаme players that were unselfish and I thought they played really well.” When a team is playing as offensively as they are, it is difficult to maintain a defensive effort. It’s more difficult when the ball isn’t going through. They held us accountable for all of our errors.
With 6:47 remaining in the game, Johnson rolled his ankle upon landing and fell down in obvious discomfort. Shortly after, Johnson—who had only made a comeback in the previous two games—was able to leave the floor on his own. Snyder wasn’t certain how serious the new ailment was.
Onyeka Okongwu of Atlanta returned from a 13-game ιnjury layoff with 11 points and 4 rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Okongwu suffered a sprained left toe. The Los Angeles native and former USC standout Okongwu hadn’t appeared on the field since February 12, just before the All-Star break.
After hand surgery, Trae Young missed his 12th straight game. In the Hawks’ 138-point victory over the Lakers in January, he finished with 26 points and six 3-pointers.
Throughout the game, Los Angeles progressively distanced itself from the Hawks, making 60% of its shots and moving the ball with ease in the first half. With his fourth 3-pointer, Russell beаt the buzzer to increase the Lakers’ advantage to 111-86 going into the fourth.
