Amad Diallo of Manchester United called his 121st goal—which he scored against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals—the greatest goal of his career.
Diallo scored the final goal to give United a 4-3 lead at Old Trafford in a drаmаtic fashion after launching a cоunterattack.
Drаmаtic events were yet to come, as the 21-year-old was dismissed for a second bookable offense after taking off his shirt in joy.
After the match, Diallo—who had in as a substitute—admitted that he had forgotten about receiving his first yellow card, which had been given just six minutes earlier.
Diallo remarked on ITV, saying, “What a game.” We deserved to win, in my opinion. We performed admirably, perhaps our best performance of the season.
When asked if this was the best goal he has ever scored, the 21-year-old said, “I believe so.” It’s the best goal of my career, in my opinion, since it’s a significant occasion.
Although I don’t think so, this is football. You have to have faith at all times. I’m glad I made the cut.
While acknowledging that he was disappointed to be sent off, Diallo emphasized that winning the game was what mattered most.
“I forgot the first yellow,” he remarked. Although I’m sad about the red card, winning is what matters most to me, and playing against a major team like Liverpool is a huge deal for me.
“Everyone approached me and expressed their congrats.” I want to thank everyone for their amazing support during the game.
United has advanced to the FA Cup semifinals, where they will play Championship team Coventry City.
This season, Diallo has faced some challenging circumstances due to his struggles with injuries and lack of opportunities when he returned to the field.
Against Liverpool, though, the young player showed what he is capable of.
In a tҺrilling match, Scott McTominay gave United the lead, but Alexis Mac Allister gave Liverpool the equalizer, and Mohamed Salah gave the visitors the lead again.
Harvey Elliott gave Liverpool a 3-2 victory in extra time after Antony’s goal had taken the game into overtime.
But Marcus Rashford tied the score for United before to Diallo’s forceful intervention.
