Since becoming the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers before last season, Darvin Ham has aimed to create a squad focused on defense and winning by limiting opponents.
Although the Lakers showed improvement in that area at the end of last season, they have since declined, despite exceptional performances from superstar center Anthony Davis.
They were defeated by the Golden State Warriors 128-110 on Thursday, mostly due to the Warriors’ effective pick-and-roll plays that created several scoring opportunities for Stephen Curry.
Later, Ham disclosed that the team’s defense was lacking because of Davis being voiceless.
Davis has grown more outspoken since joining the Lakers in 2019. He serves as their defensive cornerstone, effectively communicating defensive directives to his colleagues.
He averages 24.9 points with a shooting percentage of 55.3%, along with 12.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.5 blocked shots per game. He had three blocks, 27 points, and 15 rebounds against Golden State.
He will have a significant task on Friday when the Lakers play against the San Antonio Spurs, who have the 7-foot-4 rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.
