Anthony Davis is expected to remain with the Los Angeles Lakers for the duration of the 2027-28 NBA season. Friday, Davis purportedly signed a three-year, $186 million maximum extension with the team, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Davis, 30, had approximately $84 million remaining on the five-year, $189 million extension he signed in 2020 with the Lakers. The duration of this agreement is the 2024-25 NBA season. By the end of that season, Davis’ three-year extension will have been activated, extending its duration until 2027-28.
Davis has developed into a member of the squad prior to the 2019-20 NBA season, averaging 24.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per contest. One of the team’s primary contributors to its 2019-20 NBA title, he averaged 27.2 points in twenty-one postseason contests.
Davis and LeBron James have performed like one of the best duos in the NBA when in good health. Conversely, Davis has been sidelined by a multitude of maladies ever since his inception with the Lakers. He made 36 appearances in the 2020-21 season and 40 appearances in the 2021-22 season.
Davis and James are striving for improved outcomes following the Lakers’ Western Conference seventh-place finish in 2015. The team advanced from the play-in tournament despite a lackluster regular season and defeated the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors in the playoffs, only to be routed by the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference finals.
