Anthony Davis, a standout for the Los Angeles Lakers, was selected to his ninth Western Conference All-standout team following a pair of seasons marred by injuries.

Throughout the 2023-24 season, Davis has served as the Lakers’ anchor and came perilously short of being voted in as a starter. Davis, despite coming off the bench, was sufficiently involved in the game with eight assists and six points despite his limited scoring.

However, Davis and the Western Conference were defeated by the Eastern Conference in a game that also featured a number of iconic dunks by LeBron James and the Kobe Bryant MVP Award being presented to Damian Lillard. Although the game failed to deliver the nail-biting finish that the league office and spectators had hoped for, at least Davis and James emerged unscathed.

Davis was afforded the opportunity to play alongside some of the NBA’s brightest players, but he designated Luka Doncic and Jokic as his personal favorites.

“Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic,” Davis stated. “Those me𝚗 are comedians.” They are quite amusing. It is gratifying to experience the opposite aspect of every play that they orchestrate. “However, it was enjoyable to share the court with everyone, and those two guys in particular were phenomenal.”

Doncic and Jokic were both voted in as starters, but they were observed joking around the court and in the locker room, indicating that they did not take the game seriously. Clearly, amusing the audience and their fellow competitors was of greater importance to the two performers, who are close friends, than attempting to win the game.

Naturally altruistic playmakers, Doncic and Jokic adopted Davis’ strategy of focusing more on passing than shooting the basketball. Together, they contributed 24 assists, which enabled teammates such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Karl-Anthony Towns to account for the entirety of the scoring.

Although it is improbable that Davis, Doncic, and Jokic will reunite on the court, that will probably not occur until the All-Star Game of the following year. With any luck, the league and its supporters will witness a more engaging and competitive contest.

If requested, Anthony Davis will compete for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics.

If the Lakers had a superior record, Davis would be generating more chatter for MVP, but he should be a near-certainty to make the national team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Davis, who was recognized as a finalist for the roster, expressed his willingness to accept a request to compete for Team USA should they extend one.
