People who are the best at their sport have worn purple and gold for the Los Angeles Lakers before.
Lakers stars like Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kobe Bryant have worked for the team over its long and successful past. Now that they have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the team hopes to win their 18th championship.
James and Davis won the team’s 17th NBA title together in 2020, but they haven’t been able to repeat that success since then. The front office did everything it could to surround them with the right people to do the job, but at the trade deadline, they chose not to make any moves.
The Lakers didn’t make a move, so they can offer up to three first-round picks in trades this summer. According to ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins, the ideal player will join James and Davis in Los Angeles this summer. He said this on The Pat McAfee Show:
Even though Perkins doesn’t sаy who it is, it’s likely one of the star guards who has been linked to the Lakers in the past. Trae Young is the most likely option because the team thinks they can get him. Donovan Mitchell and Kyrie Irving are also possible candidates.
Los Angeles tried to sign Dejounte Murray before the deadline, but Young would be a better choice if he’s still available. The way Perkins talked about the unknown hero fits well with Young, who can help the Lakers move on to the next level of basketball and be Davis’s perfect running partner.
Klutch Sports also works with Young, which is something that should be taken into account when the Atlanta Hawks and the Los Angeles Lakers start talking about trading again in the summer. The Lakers’ three-star plan didn’t work the first time, but Young would be a better fit next to James and Davis because he can shoot from outside and make plays.
Anthony Davis thinks the Lakers are beginning to find their own style.
The Lakers won both of their back-to-back games, so they went into the All-Star break on a high note. Davis played very well in the win over the Utah Jazz, and he thinks the team is finally starting to find its own style.
