Anthony Davis shed light into his close relationship with Kobe Bryant and carrying on Kobe’s legacy with the Lakers.
Before Thursday’s matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, a statue honoring Kobe Bryant will be unveiled in front of Crypto.com Arena. Bryant, with whom Anthony Davis had a close personal relationship, is naturally foremost in one’s consciousness.
While leading the Lakers to a 124-118 victory over Kobe’s former team, the Charlotte Hornets, on Monday, Davis recorded his third triple-double of the season (15 rebounds, 11 assists, 26 points). (In doing so, AD joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the first Lakers player to record 25 or more points, 15 or more rebounds, 10 or more assists, and at least three blocks in the same game.)
Following the contest, Davis provided a brief insight into the regular correspondence that he had with Bryant. Consistent with Kobe’s style, the Mamba consistently inspired.
Davis stated, “There was a period of time when he was texting guys accolades such as ‘MVP this year’ and ‘Defensive Player [of the Year] this year.'” “I recall the year he failed to text me; I was astounded. ‘What the Һell?'” Consequently, I texted him. “He also provided me with something of a list.”
At the 2012 London Olympics, Davis, Bryant, and LeBron James collectively secured a gold medal. ESPN was informed by Davis’ father that Bryant took AD under his wing immediately upon joining Team USA. Davis recounted his “favorite Kobe memory” from the previous year, which involved the deceased Lakers legend forming a strong connection with his young daughter.
Davis further stated, “However, that’s how it all came full circle: playing for the Lakers, the organization where he spent twenty years and left his mark, and being able to don a Lakers uniform and, in a sense, be a part of that.” No greater sensation exists.”
