Mike Keegan of Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast reports that former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is contemplating a sensational return, stating that he has unfinished business at Old Trafford

Mail Sport understands that Jose Mourinho is eager to make what would be a sensational, albeit somewhat improbable, return to Manchester United.

The Portuguese manager, who was fired by Roma earlier this month, ‘has made it his mission’ to return to Old Trafford should the opportunity present itself in the future, according to sources close to him who spoke on Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast. The sources added that the manager has ‘unfinished business’ since leaving Old Trafford in December 2018.

As part of the petrochemicals billionaire’s 25 percent investment in the club, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are reportedly assuming control of football operations. Mourinho is reportedly eager to collaborate with the new United management.

“Returning to United is his ultimate goal,” an acquaintance explained. “He feels as though he has unresolved matters there in light of the previous encounter’s conclusion, and he had resolved to return.”

In 2016, Mourinho assumed leadership of United subsequent to the departure of Louis van Gaal. In his inaugural campaign, he led the club to the Europa League and Carabao Cup titles. Subsequently, in the following season, they secured a second-place position in the Premier League, albeit 19 points behind league leaders City.

Additionally, Mourinho, who was 61 years old at the time, had problems with a number of the club’s players. In December of last year, he stated on John Obi Mikel’s podcast that certain players remained on the books despite his opposition.

“There are still individuals within that club,” he continued. “By individuals, I do not only refer to players but also non-players who remained after I informed United two months ago that you will never be able to accomplish this with these individuals.” Indeed, they continue to be present.

Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, and Scott McTominay are the remaining members of the working squad from the roster he assumed charge of.

Erik ten Hag’s squad are ninth in the Premier League, 16 points behind league leaders Liverpool, and have already qualified for Europa League play. They travel to Wolves on Wednesday. The FA Cup is their sole opportunity to acquire silverware this season.
