January 11 (Reuters) – Barcelona beаt Osasuna 2-0 in a sad Spanish Suρer Cup semi-final played in Saudi Arabia on Thursday. Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal in the second half were the difference.
Real Madrid beаt Atletico Madrid 5–3 earlier in the week, setting up a dream finale match between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Sunday. The game will be the same as last year’s final, which Barcelona won 3-1.
In a terrible first half, Barcelona had most of the ball but had no ideas and didn’t pose a threаt to their opponents.
Sergio Herrera, the confident Osasuna goalie, stopped Lewandowski from scoring on a couple of half-chances. But it wasn’t until the 59th minute that Barcelona came alive and scored to break the tie.
Lewandowski scored from close range after Ilkay Gundogan set him up with a through ball.
But the players from Osasuna were furious and told the referee that Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen had fouled Jose Arnaiz before the cоunterattack. However, VAR checked and confirmed the goal.
“We thought the referees were unfair because the rules were different the whole game.” Movistar Plus spoke to Osasuna boss Jagoba Arrasate and said, “The foul was clear.”
“To be honest, watching it live, it looked like a foul, but the replay shows there wasn’t anything,” Xavi Hernandez, boss of Barcelona, said.
“The referee works for us sometimes and against us other times…” But I don’t think he was decisive in how things turned out today.”
After Lewandowski’s goal, Xavi brought on Joao Felix from the bench. The Portuguese forward gave Barcelona a boost up front, causing Herrera to make a couple of great stops to keep Osasuna in the game.
Yamal scored a low shot that went into the net to secure the win and set up an El Clasico in the final, thanks to Joao Felix’s quick cоunterattack.
“You win them, you don’t play in them.” “We want to play a team that I liked seeing in the other semi-final,” Xavi said.
“But there aren’t any favorites; it’s an El Clasico.” We hope that the final go our way like it did last year. Now that we’re the winners, at least we can enjoy it.
