The Los Angeles Lakers beаt the L.A. Clippers on Sunday, ending a four-game losing streak. LeBron James and Anthony Davis both played great on both ends of the court.

On both ends of the court, the Lakers have been stuck, but they may have played their best game since the NBA In-Season Tournament final round. James scored 25 points, which was the most of any player, and Davis had another double-double with 22 points and 10 boards.

During the 2023–24 season, Davis has been the Lakers’ best player on both offense and defense. The big man has done almost everything on defense this season, and at times he has even played against the best players on the other team.

That meant Davis had to draw Paul George on several plays against the Clippers.

It’s clear that he’s a great player with a lot of different moves, Davis said. “Knows how to drive, shoot the ball well, and do all sorts of tricks.” It was my job to stay in front and give him a hard time. As a guard, I’m very comfortable covering anyone in this league. I’ve shown that I can cover all five spots, and my team trusts me to make plays defensively for them. You should feel good whenever you stop a player like that.

Davis helped George only make 8 of 18 shots from the field, including 4 of 11 from beyond the line. Those are good numbers for a star player like George, who can score a lot of points. Davis is most effective when he is close to the basket blocking shots, but he has also been known to switch on players on the wings when needed.

The Lakers have a lot of wing players, which lets head coach Darvin Ham switch things up more easily. Having someone like Davis who can hold his own is also a huge plus. When the Clippers play, Davis isn’t needed because Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and George are all great one-on-one shooters. Ham and the coaching staff would rather not wear Davis.

The Lakers’ win over their co-tenants at Crypto.com Arena was a huge confidence booster because they haven’t been able to put together many good games since winning the In-Season Tournament. The Clippers have been playing about as well as anyone else in the league, so Davis thinks this is the perfect chance for him and the Lakers to finally start moving in the right direction after their win.
