UPDATE NEWS: ‘Spy’ 60M from Chelsea is about to return to training, Varane is invited by big teams, MU keeps an eye on young star Benfica and more

Manchester United halted their four-game winless and goalless run with a tҺrilling 3-2 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford last night.

After trailing 2-0 at half-time, United showed terrific character and commitment to bаttle back and scoop all three points, thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho (2) and a first in the Premier League from Rasmus Hojlund. United had gone more than seven hours without scoring by half-time and it looked as though it would be another one of those nights.

However, the Reds, in the end, got nothing more than what they deserved, with their second half showing worthy of maximum points. It was the perfect way to cap off what had been an encouraging 48 hours, following confirmation of INEOS’ investment in the club on Christmas Eve.

INEOS member Sir David Brailsford was in attendance at Old Trafford last night, watching from the directors’ box. It is hoped that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will attend a game in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, United received an ιnjury boost this evening as Mason Mount returned to training on the grass at Carrington.

Bayern Munich want Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane could be a man in demand when the market reopens. United remain open to selling Varane and five other players in January. But the club insists they will not force anyone to leave.

Spanish giants Real Madrid have been linked with a return swoop for Varane to cover ιnjury problems there. However, reports from Spanish newspaper Sport indicate Bayern Munich are also ready to enter the race for his signature.

Joao Neves price to jump up to £130m

United might have to pay £130million to sign Joao Neves in the future. Speculation around the Benfica teenager has been at a fever pitch recently. Bruno Fernandes is known to admire the 19-year-old starlet.

However, amid mooted interest from Old Trafford and beyond, reports from Portuguese outlet O Jogo state Benfica and representatives for Neves are locked in discussions over a new contract that would see a hike to his release clause.
