$100M for the perennial Malibu home, where Pierce Brosnan and his wife raise 2 sons- Is the price worth it?

After nearly two decades of residing in Malibu, California, Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, are preparing to bid farewell to their expansive family residence.

The beloved James Bond actor and his filmmaker spouse have listed their beachfront mansion for an impressive $100M.

The couple acquired the two plots of land in 2000, just a year before their marriage, for a total of $7., according to Variety. Initially, they lived in a modest ranch-style house on the property before deciding to construct their dream home – a magnificent 5-bedroom, 14-bathroom estate inspired by their travels in Thailand, where Brosnan filmed Tomorrow Never Dies.

Dubbed “Orchid House,” the residence incorporates Southeast Asian influences, featuring a bamboo privacy wall and tropical plantings throughout. The project took nearly a decade to complete, with meticulous attention to detail, including the precise green color of the clay-tiled roof, reminiscent of the temples the couple admired in Thailand. Keely Smith shared that achieving the exact shade of green was a labor of love.

Designed by Ralph and Ross Anderson and built by Albino Construction, the property consists of a resort-style main house and a two-story pool/guest house, totaling approximately 12,500 square feet. The estate offers breathtaking views of Malibu’s Broad Beach, stretching along almost 120 feet of ocean frontage.

Inside, the main suite alone spans a massive 4,000 square feet, featuring a spacious sitting area, two fireplaces, dual bathrooms, dressing rooms, and glass foldaway doors leading to a private deck with mesmerizing views of the ocean and mountains.

The home boasts various amenities, such as a gym, theater room, seven fireplaces, a library/art studio, a Japanese-style spa with a sauna, steam room, and hоt-and-cold pools, a recording studio, and a bar.

Stepping into the backyard, one finds a saltwater pool with a waterfall, two glassed-in areas designed for dining and relaxation with views of the water, a sandy spot for those who prefer not to venture down to the beach, and abundant gardens.

The couple raised their two sons in this cherished abode, but with their boys moving out, they have been spending more time in Smith’s native Hawaii. Brosnan also has three other children from his late wife, Cassandra Harris, who passed away from ovarian cаncer in 1991, including a daughter, Charlotte, who tragically succumbed to ovarian cаncer in 2013.

Expressing their decision to part ways with their beloved custom home, Brosnan told WSJ that it’s time for a change. Currently, they are residing at their compound on the North Shore of Kauai, Hawaii, while they may be considering a home in Santa Barbara, California, where they recently purchased a property for their sons.

Though Malibu will always have a special place in his heart, Brosnan affirms that Hawaii is now truly his home: “Home is very much here in the islands.”
